Reports to: Assigned teacher, building principal, and/or special services director 

 

Supervises: n/a

 

Qualifications: Tier 2 (Special Education)

 

  •  Two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester 

          hours of college work), OR

 

  •  An associate’s degree (or higher), OR

 

  •  Passed the WorkKeys Test (Bronze +), ParaPro Assessment (455 +) or 

          the OGET

 

AND

  • OSDE special education paraprofessional training through Pepper, 

         career technology centers or other state-approved training providers

 

  • Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid training, 

         maintaining current certification

 

  •  Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens yearly training AND

 

  • Six hours of professional development each year

 

 

Job Goal: Work with a small group of students or one-on-one with an individual student to assist the student with unique      educational goals.

 

Employment Terms: 172 days subject to the approved school calendar 

                                    7 hours per day

 

FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

 

Evaluation: Annually by building principal

Regular Requirements:  Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 15 pounds

 

Occasional Requirements:  Lift/move up to 25 pounds

 

Visual Requirements:  Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

 

Hearing/Speaking Requirements:  Adequate to exchange information

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Note - these duties vary based upon the individual student needs and individualized education plans.  Typical duties may include:

 

  1. Monitor students on district-provided transportation and assist students in getting on or off busses and vans.

 

  1. Accompany students to the cafeteria for meals, assist them with getting and eating meals, and clean up after meals.

 

  1. Accompany students to classes or therapy services, monitor behavior (intervening as needed), and assist with classwork.

 

  1. Assist students with motor, balance, social,l and life skills.

 

  1. Assist students with personal care, including dressing, toileting, and diapering.

 

  1. Monitor students during nap times.

 

  1. Complete all paperwork, including Medicaid and daily progress journals.

 

  1. Clean and maintain an efficient work area.

 

  1. Assist with instruction, errands, and copies related to assigned student(s)

 

    10. Attend IEP and other meetings and trainings as requested.

 

 

    11. Alert assigned teacher of concerns related to the student.

 

 

    12. Maintain confidentiality of student information.

 

 

    13. Comply with all federal, state, and local laws and board policies and procedures.

 

 

    14. Utilize professional behavior in all school-related interactions.

 

 

    15. Perform all other tasks as requested by supervisor.
