Teacher Aide Instructional
Reports to: Assigned teacher, building principal
Supervises: n/a
Qualifications: Tier 1 (Paraprofessional)
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester
hours of college work), OR
- An associate’s degree (or higher), OR
- Passed the WorkKeys Test (Bronze +), ParaPro Assessment (455 +) or
the OGET
Job Goal: Support assigned teacher to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the classroom.
Employment Terms: 172 days x 7 hours (1204 hours)
FLSA Classification: Non exempt
Evaluation: Annually by building principal

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 15 pounds
Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 25 pounds
Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Note - these duties vary based upon the assigned grade and individual student needs. Typical duties may include:
- Assist teacher in planning and implementing daily and long range lessons.
- Prepare papers, copies, materials, bulletin boards, etc.
- Maintain attendance and other paperwork.
- Supervise students during meal times, transition periods and recess. Escort students to/from classes, office, restrooms, etc.
- Monitor student behavior and intervene when needed, including notifying other officials of unique needs of individual students.
- Conduct learning exercises with small groups of students.
- Maintain the classroom in an organized manner.
- Serve as a substitute teacher when needed.
- Monitor testing as needed.
- Assist nurse when needed.
- Utilize professional behavior in all school related interactions.
- Comply with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.
- Perform all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
