Custodian (Night)
Reports to: Building principal
Supervises: n/a
Qualifications: Basic reading and writing skills
Ability to follow directions and work independently
Job Goal: Maintain district facilities in a clean and safe manner.
Employment Terms: 176 nights x 8 hours (1408 hours) and 84 days x 8 hours (672 hours)
FLSA Classification: Non exempt
Evaluation: Annually by building principal

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 50 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands and operate equipment
Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 75 pounds
Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As Needed / Ongoing:
1. Keep building and premises (sidewalks, driveways and play areas) neat and clean at all times.
2. Know location and proper care and use of all fire fighting equipment.
3. Maintain clean and orderly storage rooms, including tools and supplies.
4. Promptly report hazards to building principal.
5. Operate and maintain buffers, sanders, vacuum cleaners and other janitorial equipment.
6. Move equipment and/or furniture when needed. Set up and remove folding tables and other equipment for lunch, recreation, or special events.
Daily:
1. Close assigned building each evening, including ensuring that all students are out of the buildings, lights are off, thermostats are set, windows and doors are locked, rooms are check for fire hazards, etc.
2. Clean and disinfect bathroom sinks, walls, toilets and floors.
3. Spray, disinfect and deodorize assigned building.
4. Clean, disinfect and maintain water fountains.
5. Sweep and mop all hallways and rooms.
6. Vacuum all carpets.
7. Empty all trash receptacles.
Weekly:
1. Clean all windows, woodwork, metalwork and door mats.
2. Dust lockers.
3. Inventory and order custodial supplies in accordance with district purchasing procedures.
Monthly:
1. Wax and polish linoleum, tile and hardwood floors.
2. Dust blinds.
3. Inspect fire extinguishers, lights and ballasts, and HVAC filters.
Winter Inclement Weather:
In the event school is cancelled due to winter precipitation, restore safe parking lots, walkways, steps, etc. prior to classes resuming. This includes plowing, shoveling, de-icing and sanding.
Summer:
During summer break, conduct seasonal and annual maintenance rather than daily tasks.
- Clear each classroom of all equipment and strip, clean and seal floors.
- Shampoo carpets.
- Paint as needed.
- Move furniture.
- Organize cleaning procedures.
- Perform non-routine maintenance.
- Pick up outside trash and weed-eat.
Other:
1. Comply with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.
2. Utilize professional behavior in all school related interactions.
3. Perform all other tasks as requested by supervisor.
