Special Education Teacher

 

 

Reports to:                   Building principal and special education director

 

Supervises:                  Assigned aides and paraprofessionals

 

Qualifications:            Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate in assigned subject(s)

                                       Current CPI certification

                                       Current CPR and First Aid certification

 

Job Goal:                      Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the established policies and procedures of the district.

 

Employment Terms: 10 month contract  

 

FLSA Classification:  Exempt

Evaluation:                  Annually pursuant to Oklahoma law

Regular Requirements:  Stand for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 50 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands and operate equipment; repetitive use of fingers and hands to operate equipment

 

Occasional Requirements:  Ability to administer CPR

 

Visual Requirements:  Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

 

Hearing/Speaking Requirements:  Adequate to exchange information

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.         Establish and implement classroom procedures designed to maximize student learning.

 

2.         Prepare detailed weekly lesson plans for each assigned student consistent with the student’s IEP.  Timely submit plans to assigned principal.

 

3.         Prepare and present lessons consistent with written lesson plans and best education practices.  Comply with all Individualized Education Plans.

 

4.         Maintain a neat and orderly classroom, including the physical arrangement of the room, student records and materials.

 

5.         Handle routine classroom discipline fairly.

 

6.         Prepare and timely submit all required reports and evaluations for each assigned student.

 

7.         Attend and participate in all required meetings and conferences, including professional development and planning meetings.

 

8.         Maintain complete and accurate student records, including attendance, performance and discipline records. 

 

9.         Provide professional and regular feedback to students and parents, ensuring compliance with all laws and district policies and procedures.

 

10.       Regularly participate in appropriate professional development opportunities.

 

11.       Comply with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.

 

12.       Utilize professional behavior in all school-related interactions.

 

13.       Perform all other tasks as requested by supervisor.
